The subject of the project is the “Asyaport Port Capacity Increase Project” to be carried out by Asyaport Liman A.Ş. in the Barbaros Mahallesi area of Süleymanpaşa District, Tekirdağ Province. The project area has been determined to be located within the Marmara Sea and Islands Special Environmental Protection Area by Presidential Decree No. 4758 dated November 4, 2021, published in the Official Gazette No. 31650 dated November 5, 2021.
Therefore, the Project Impacts and Ecosystem Assessment Report (EDR) required for activities to be carried out in the Marmara Sea and Islands Special Environmental Protection Area has been prepared in accordance with the format published by the General Directorate of Nature Conservation of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change of the Republic of Turkey.
Within the scope of the EDR studies, marine biological surveys of the activity area and its surroundings were conducted on December 24, 2021, through coastal observations and diving. These studies were supported by a literature review.
The purpose of the EDR study is to reveal the biodiversity characteristics of the marine environment in terms of the ecological structure and marine species under protection in the activity area and its immediate surroundings, to determine the possible effects of the activity on the existing marine ecosystem during both the construction and operation phases, and to identify the necessary measures to minimize these effects.
