The engineering and supervision services of İstanbul Composting and Recovery Plant with the capacity of 1000 t/d is provided by Rast, IGA and Mimko. The work realised by Rast comprises the following parts;
- Site selection
- Feasibility Study and Environmental Impact Assessment Reports
- Project for the separate collection of recyclables and organic waste
- Design of the wastewater treatment plant of the composting facility
- Co-ordination of the Turkish participation in Project planning and design
- Preparation of the tender documents
- Consultancy and assistance during the evaluation of the construction tenders
- Construction supervision
The integrated facility was designed for 500 t/d of compostable waste and 500 t/d waste to pass the sorting facility. Waste is pre-conditioned by a double rotating drum sieve where the fine fraction containing ashes and the coarse fraction containing the recyclable waste are separated from the organic fraction. The sorting facility consists of a sorting belt, material stacks, plastic, metal and paper presses, baling machines and glass crushers. The composting facility has been designed in two paralel lines. The main fermentation process is realised within a completely closed building. Air treatment is realised with a biological scrubber. Wastewater with low pollution passes a mechanical pre-treatment and is then re-used for moistening the compost heaps. Leachate water from the composting area is treated together with other wastewater in a biological wastewater treatment plant before being discharged. Compost is produced according to maturity degree 4/5.
